- Types of surface preparation equipments, methods, and standards for abrasive blasting, solvent cleaning, power and manual tool cleaning
- Recognize coating application by type, including brush, roller, mitt, conventional and airless spray
- Practicing inspection procedures
- Understanding the role of the inspector in keeping safety, ethics, conflict prevention, and decision-making
- Conducting tests for environmental or ambient conditions and nonvisible contaminants
- Using non-destructive test instruments like wet-film and dry-film thickness gauges and low and high voltage holiday detectors
- Measuring the surface profile using replica tape and anvil micrometers and digital surface profile gauges
- Recognizing quality control, design and fabrication defects and coating failures
- Using Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product technical data sheets
- Maintaining a Logbook and report documentation
