The API SIRE Source Inspector Rotating Equipment certification is for candidates who conducts quality surveillance of equipment, fabrications and materials in the supplier level in oil & gas, petrochemical industries. API SIRE certification comes under the Source Inspector suite and it mainly focuses on rotating equipment like gears, compressors, pumps and turbines.

The API Source Inspector exams contain 100 multiple choice questions that are intended to evaluate the core knowledge required to perform the source inspection of mechanical rotating equipment.  Exam Structure

• 3.25 hours long.
• There will be 110 questions,  of which only 100 are scored. The remaining 10 are pretest, which won’t be scored. 
• All questions are multiple-choice and closed-book. Paper and reference materials are not allowed into the examinations.
• This exam has a set passing scaled score. 

Re-Certification

1. API SIRE Source Inspector Rotating Equipment certification is valid for only three years.
2. Employment verification is not required during re-certification process
3. Certified people must apply for re-certification 90 days prior to the certification expiration date. 
4. API also allows a 90-day grace period for submitting a re-certification application. But there will be a nominal fee for late applicants.

If you fail to submit the application for re-certification during the 90-day grace period, the certification will expire. In such instance, you have to remit the full application fees and go through all the procedures for acquiring SIRE certification as if it is for the first time.
